Where do I even begin? I had hoped the first wrestling-related article I’d write would be on a happier note. Coming off the surprisingly impressive Wrestlemania 36, or applauding the creativity put in place to address the empty arenas, and even Matt Hardy’s AEW debut, there is so much good. Unfortunately, here in the middle of April, the reality of the world is digging its way deeper inside. Before it was Roman Reigns pulling out of WM over, well-founded, health concerns, but now you Rusev and a slew of others pulled out of their dream job due to the financial impact of those health concerns. Nothing sums this up better than Drake Maverick/Rockstar Spud who was part of those released and talks about it in his Twitter video.
I really can’t think of anyone not impacted someway by this situation. All I can say to the individuals involved is that my heart goes out to them. Most of the guys I’ve followed for a long time, or are newer with so much potential. In some cases being a smark or smart mark, as they say, would say that it’s great as now they have a chance to be used properly somewhere else. I can’t get myself to be at all happy about this. Fantasy booking wise this opens up things greatly and am excited about potential matchups. However, today, I can’t think that way. People have lost jobs and dreams all because of something beyond their control. Do I think most will land on their feet? Of course, just about everyone is a proven or highly potential money draw for whatever organization that is honored to pick them up. Yet uncertainty looms and the best I can say is if you are a fan to support them. Send them a nice message, or if you have the means and they have a way to, buy their merchandise. Matt Cardona (Zack Ryder) has a podcast and t-shirts, so if you’re a fan of his there’s a new shirt here.

You have a crazy industry that’s now getting political and all the talking heads have an opinion. Mine is this, business is business, and things trickle down. As long as adults act like adults then live and let live. That phrase has more impact now than ever. Prudential judgment is key. Lives are affected by many different angles, from the obvious health, to financial, to overall well-being. Unfortunately, the virus didn’t say to all the other illnesses ‘go take a break.’ This didn’t replace, it piled onto everything else. All I can say is be cautious of tunnel vision, check your sources, weigh your options, and make informed decisions.
All right time to indulge in some fantasy booking. Tell me, who isn’t excited to see Rockstar Spud try to even the odds against King Maxel? Their first contest can be seen in this video. Or how about EC3 being a main eventer again? There’s tremendous upside that as a fan we have hope for. Until then, the best we can say is, we support you!
I’ll try to make the next one a bit happier.
